If you use ethereal and winpcap under windows
you may want to look at rpcapd.exe (part of winpcap)
this allows you to do remote captures using ethereal already today and works
well in all tests i have done.

If you want to use this under Linux or unix and unix-like systems you might
want to get in touch with
the libpcap people over at www.tcpdump.org.
They might be interested if someone writes and contributes a port of the
rpcap layer to libpcap.
