Hello,

It's been well established on this mailing list that OpenSSL cannot be
used with Ethereal because of the conflict between the GPL and the
OpenSSL license.

So, here's my question: Why, after all that discussion, is OpenSSL
linked against my copy of Ethereal?

Here's the ldd:

[devin@devinlinux .libs]$ ldd ethereal
        libwiretap.so.0 => not found
        libethereal.so.0 => not found
==>     libcrypto.so.0.9.7 => /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 (0x40028000)
        libpcre.so.0 => /lib/libpcre.so.0 (0x4012a000)
        libpcap.so.0 => /usr/lib/libpcap.so.0 (0x4013b000)
        libgtk-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.so.0 (0x40160000)
        libgdk-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgdk-1.2.so.0 (0x402ae000)
        libgmodule-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgmodule-1.2.so.0 (0x402e9000)
        libglib-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libglib-1.2.so.0 (0x402ec000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x40312000)
        libXi.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXi.so.6 (0x40315000)
        libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x4031d000)
        libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x4032b000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x4040e000)
        libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0x40431000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x40442000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)

If this is just an oversight? If not, can anyone offer an explanation?

Thanks,
