For what it's worth, the .src.rpm is not necessary unless you're
planning on rebuilding the binary from sources.

>    ethereal-0.9.6-1.i386.rpm

You must install the ethereal-gnome package to get the ethereal binary.
The ethereal package contains 'tethereal' (the console version of
ethereal).
