OK, I hadn't opened a capture file, so that's it all was. I guess I was
expecting the version to appear in the title bar at startup and when it didn't
I thought I must be doing something wrong.

I understand your reasoning for not placing it in the title bar when the
welcome screen is shown, and to me it's fine now that I understand when it
shows up and that the behavior is expected ... although I guess it's not fine
for everyone, which is also fine :) I like the version appearing in the title
bar, so hopefully the patch is re-committed in whatever new form is acceptable
to the Wireshark community.

BTW, regarding Guy's point #3, namely:
> 3) It's not updating the title bar as soon as you change the check box setting.

This is the same behavior as before with the version showing or not showing on
the welcome screen. You had to restart Wireshark before the change would take
affect. I hope I didn't imply that this patch introduced that behavior; it's
just something I happened to notice for the first time while looking at this.
