Almost certainly this is a memory issue in Windows, usually after
loading large files or the like that consume lost of memory. I have
occasionally experienced this (with apps other than Ethereal). It seems
that the font rendering engine gets corrupted, maybe it can't deal with
the number of fonts being used or installed). I certainly haven't had
this in any version of ethereal. I have found a reboot fixes it.
(Windows 95 has fairly poor memory management, I would suggest trying to
move Win2K or XP or Linux if cost is an issue.

Also, to be nice "nettiquette-wise" if you do post to the list try to
compress any screendumps to GIF or PNG format. (2.3MB is a bit big)

Subject: [Ethereal-users] Help Please!!

Hi,
I am trying to use Ethereal 0.9.7 on Windows 95 and windump shows packet
caputring is OK. However when GUI Ethereal displays the captured data or
data from a .cap file captured by another product, the display just
shows blocks and lines, no words or no.s. I attach an example. Do you
know why this is please ? (See attached file: ethereal.bmp)

Regards,
Mike Riches
