But then pcap would by telling lies about the contents of the packet.
You would have exactly the same problem that you currently do, but ALL
of the server packets would be correct including the ones which go onto
the wire with bad checksums. That would be even more confusing to you
than the situation that you have now, which at least is so outrageous
that it indicates the cause.

Maybe Ethereal could ameliorate its flagging of checksum errors on
outgoing packets, but I can't get worked up about it, and just maybe
there are systems out there where the checksums are still done by the
OS.
