It’s possible that there are incompatibilities, which would necessitate
modifying Lua scripts , but for me personally, I don’t mind changing my
scripts if I have to. In fact, I **want** to change my scripts in order

The last time this was discussed I remember there was a very strong push
for Lua script backward compatibility. I agree with you though.
Another concern was the availabity of Lua 5.3 on the platforms we
support (enteprise distros with very long support cycles).

Can our current code run fine with Lua 5.3/5.4? Based on previous
discussions in -dev I thought it was not the case but maybe I'm
wrong (I'm not a Lua user myself and this is based on exchanges from
a few years ago).
If it is safe, I will happily update the package.
And would the existing scripts be compatible with Lua 5.3 or 5.4?
