Becareful if this is a bridge.  Trying to bridge two different MAC layers is fraught with danger.  A lot of things have to go right to make it work and it like working in a house of cards.  It can cam crashing down at any moment.

Capturing it on the Ethernet side probably wouldn't buy you all that much since the "black box" already munged any valuable information that you may or may not need.  I personally know people that took original Dolch Network General Sniffers and installed Ethereal on it.  The TR cards were usable within Ethereal.  

So I'm guessing that if you took a PC on that FDDI ring and installed Ethereal/PCAP, you should be able to capture on the ring.
