The installation instructions should be fixed to indicate that the
"Requirements" section applies to building Ethereal from *source*, not
to installing binary packages.

If you install a binary package of Ethereal, you should probably install
binary packages of the libraries that Ethereal depends on; as the
"Binary Packages" section of the "download" page says:

	Binary distributions and ready-to-compile packages are available
	for several platforms.  Most of theses[sic] sites also contain
	distributions of the libraries that Ethereal depends on, such as
	GTK+ and libpcap.

and, in particular, The Written Word have binary packages of zlib, GLib,
GTK+, and UCD SNMP, as noted at the bottom of the "Binary Packages"
section.
