I'm confuse with the ethereal instrunction provided
on the web:

For Sun Solaris 5.6:

1. requirement:
  GTK+ 1.2 - at GTK+ site, binary, can't find unix version except
           AIX, BEBIAN, RPMS
  libpcap - several versions, pick libpcap-0.7.1.tar.gz, correct?
  perl - ok
  Zlib - not required?
  Net-snmp - not required

2. install ethereal, download the binary packets, are the following step

   correct
  sparc-sun-solaris2.6 from The Written Word(2,5,1-8)

  tar -xvf ethereal-0.8.19.pkgadd.tar

  run 'ethereal-0.8.19.ins'
