That's because Ethereal starts another program instance, if you use 
"Update list of packets in real time", I didn't thought about that.
Gerald Combs already checked in a fix for this, thank you Gerald.

Well, there seems to be a bug, I'm currently looking at it. Please 
expect a fix soon...
