Presumably they run in separate processes, rather than Ethereal being an
in-process OLE server?

The OLE enhancements might be useful, assuming they're not overly
specific to their analyzer (i.e., if other applications could also drive
it).

Other desktop environments might have similar mechanisms (DCOP, Bonobo,
etc.).
