I haven't looked at your code itself, but noticed a few formal problems:
md5.[hc] should be named crypt-md5.[hc]. Also, I'm wondering whether the
license of the md5.[hc] files is "upgradeable" to GPL, it not, then we
have a licens conflict.

I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). Now I know
what proactive means.
