The MACsec Key Agreement (MKA) protocol establishes and maintains the secure Connectivity Associations (CAs) used by MACsec. The → → dialog analyzes the MKA Protocol Data Units (MKPDUs) in a capture and presents the state of each CA.
The analysis is also available from TShark with -z mka,ca.
The dialog organizes the information as a tree:
Peer Group Formations reconstructs each key distribution as a separate episode, classified as one of:
Each formation lists its key server, the target SAK, and its peers. For every peer the dialog reports the installation time (when the peer installed the key for receive), the formation time (when it activated the key for transmit), and the retirement time (when the key was rotated out). The peer holding the longest value for each metric is shown in bold, and a peer that is new to the group has its SCI and new MI shown in bold.
Double-clicking a row navigates to the relevant packet. Right-clicking a row lets you apply or prepare a display filter scoped to that peer, key server, or formation. When MAC address resolution is enabled, SCIs are shown using the resolved name and update live if the setting changes.
