A suggested enhancement for Wireshark:

In the capture setup dialog, is it possible to add a “Capture Threshold” feature whereby Wireshark would only capture packets when the packet rate was above X packets per second?

I see this capability being helpful in detecting and therefore mitigating DoS attacks.
