OK, my mistake. I interpreted it as a recommendation of what would need to be
done in order to resolve bug2254. Maybe Stephen also interpreted it that way?
Any further thoughts on how best to proceed then? Revert r34838 and reopen bug
2254, or forge ahead with something like the patch I submitted here? Or
something else?
