A possible patch to resolve this bug.
This patch may not be ideal because the solution involves some tweaks to
packet-sll.c in order to resolve it, but it's better than the existing
situation. I could not come up with a way to hide all details in packet-eth.c;
maybe someone else can. For now, this is the best I can come up with. If
there are no gripes, I'll commit it in a few days and a better solution can
always be committed later on when someone has the interest/time/energy to
invest in it.
