I actually tried building this one myself using the libraries and tools from
the CSW distribution. The CSW binary distribution also has this problem, so
I'm guessing there is something messed up in their glibc distribution package
as you suggested.
I tried building again using the Sun Studio 12 compiler without linking to any
of the CSW libraries and things seem to work now.
This was all done on a Solaris 10 i386 box (amd64).
