The problem was that many modules in the GTK directory had prototypes for
protect_thread_critical_region() and unprotect_thread_critical_region() and
those prototypes didn't say that the function was actually external to the
module.  I fixed that by getting rid of all those prototypes and including
"gtk/main.h" (which has the correct--extern'd--prototype) in those modules that
did not already include it.

Fixed in rev 25933.
