My apologies, but a quick Windows Update (and reinstallation of GTK+ runtime
environment & Wireshark 0.99.6a [although prior to the Win updates]) seems to
have fixed it.  I feel rather foolish since that fixed it ... the tip off to me
was the MS Visual C++ Runtime Environment.

For now I'm going to close this bug report - no sense having it open when I've
reached some sort of resolution.  I hope this will be a useful addition to your
bug database ... I have no clue why it happened, but until I updated Windows it
wouldn't work.
