ok..i figured it out.. =]
So just in case anyone else gets the same problem it is most likely
because you tried to install two copies of gtk+/glib2 libraries.. in
my case i had the right .pc (version files that pkg-config uses) files
in /usr/lib/pkgconfig and some bogus .pc files in
/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
so it's just a matter of locating the .pc files that are giving
trouble and fixing those
