I just did an update with the software manager (update with 39 files) all
of them installed correctly......no errors.

I then on the command line su'd to root and typed urpmi ethereal and then
the packages installed.

I then try to run tethereal on the command line and this is what I get:

[root@lateste]# tethereal
tethereal: Symbol `pcap_version' has different size in shared object, consider
re-linking

- I don't much care for the "re-link" just wondering what the solution is.
If I try ethereal by itself on the command line a gui does appear but the
command line shows these errors.
[root@lateste]# ethereal

re-linking

I'm just wondering if someone can show me how to fix these errors, or if
someone used ethereal before.

How can I build it from source in mandrake, or maybe use the rpm utility.
Still kind of new sorry
Ethereal Help and Error

The other problem is that I try to run it in my desktop and it only shows me a
permissions error.

Sorry clueless, but from the readings I like your product.
