I have a very default install of ethereal, with the included
gtk-1.3.dll. Is there a different version I can try?

If my machine and time can be useful in tracking this down I'll 
be happy to try to help. Just be aware you'd have to do a fair
amount of hand-holding if there's any debugging involved...

There's probably some bizarre GTK+ bug causing this.  It's *supposed* to
work in GTK+.
