Installed ethereal 09.15 c, didn't detect network adaptor,

I.e., it didn't show up in the list of interfaces in the "Interface:" field?

entered address of network adaptor obtained from registry, all seems to work.

I.e., you took the name of the adapter from the registry and put that into the "Interface:" field, and you were able to capture on it?

If so, try downloading WinDump 3.8 alpha:

	http://windump.polito.it/install/default.htm

and run "windump -D", and see if it reports that adapter.

If not, this is probably a WinPcap bug; report it to the WinPcap developers:
