Perhaps the latest version of the tools assumes that you're building using Cygwin, and therefore assumes that there's a "unistd.h".

If so, then perhaps MinGW:

	http://www.mingw.org/

is more appropriate for people who want to build using Microsoft tools, if one of the components contains Flex and Bison - if it does, its Flex might not generate files that assume UNIX headers.
