It would be nice if I could tell ethereal to write out the packet data
through the wiretap processing routines regardless of whether I'm saving
the data as the same type of file.

I was using the (read a sniffer cap/write a sniffer cap) approach to
debugging a dump routine for the netxray_1_1 file format, however, that
doesn't work unless you save to an intermediate file type first. (This
is very much a developer only type of function, but it would be nice to
have for testing purposes.)
