I have been considering this from an (overly) Windows-centric 
perspective. In any case, I really like this idea, except that instead 
of "No default interface selected," I'd make it "No interface selected" 
and have it display whenever there is no selected interface, whether 
because no default was saved in Preferences, or because the user 
de-selected the selected interface(s).
