The Atheros-based adapter on my MacBook Pro, and its driver, don't appear to allow the adapter remain associated with a network while the adapter is in monitor mode.

It looks as if the Broadcom-based adapter on an iMac to which I have access, and its driver, *does* allow the adapter to remain associated with a network while it's in monitor mode.
