Wireshark-users: Re: [Wireshark-users] Looking for plugin to be able to"hear"/"build" G723/G729

The PVA-1000 application will play back most, if not all VoIP codes found, including G.711 and G.729 flavors.  It reads the libpcap file format that is used by WireShark.

Go see for yourself.  Give it a try.  JDSU allows for a FREE 30 day evaluation period.

Hi All,

Thank you all for explanation.

Few comments:

Alex - with the PVA-1000 I would be able to playback G723/G729 streams that have been captured by the wireshark (important note – I can only capture packets with wireshark no other application is allowed).

Pedro – the main problem with this solution (correct me if I am wrong) is that I will not be able to create playback files from both forward/reverse stream – but each time one way stream…

Tomas  - Could you please give more information? The link that you provide me takes me to "file share" page – with no details about the files…

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Wireshark has a G711 codec because it, an its algorithm, are public domain. This is not true of a number of other popular codecs like g729, g726, etc.

Tbere are PC applications that will play these streams from libpcap files, but they charge. One that is available for a trial period of 30 days is from JDSU call PVA-1000.  I have tried it and I liked it quite a bit, but the company I work for did not like its licensing restrictions.

Another application that I use is called ClearSight. It will capture, decode and play all major VoIP codecs and used libpcap files, but again it costs $$$.

Best of luck
