Wireshark-users: [Wireshark-users] Trouble doing IrDA sniffing with wireshark

Date: Thu, 15 May 2008 17:14:05 -0700

Hello Wireshark community,

I used to be able to do IrDA sniffing using IRCOMM 2k 1.2.1.1, Winpcap version 3.1 beta with a patch, and Wireshark (pre 1.0).

I installed the latest wireshark and it installed Winpcap version 4.0.2.  I’m using the same IrCOMM2k.

I can see my Actisys IrDA dongle in the device manager, and I can see COM18 as a virtual IR port in my device manager as well.

I’m using Windows XP SP2 version 2002.

Now that I’ve Updated to Wireshark version 1.0.0, it doesn’t support my IrDA capture interface.  I only have two capture interfaces instead of 3 like I used to.  I tried using the old patch that I had for the Winpcap version 3.1 where I replaced the wpcap.dll, and this does make it so the IrDA capture interface does appear for me… however there is no packets when I capture.  I’m not filtering them and I have the IRCOMM, IrLAP, and IrLMP checked to be captured.  I’ve verified with hyperterm that there is data being exchanged.

Has anyone else had troubles getting the packets to be captured with IrDA and wireshark?

Best Regards,

Benjamin
