Wireshark-users: Re: [Wireshark-users] Is it a bug with Wireshark?

It sounds like a different situation. I definitely agree with the conversation in the bug regarding privsep and not wanting expose the entirety of wireshark dissector code to filtering raw traffic while running as root.

However, the OP of this thread appeared to be talking about using '-R' to set the Display Filter in wireshark during an autostarted, '-k', live capture. So, we're not looking for setting a capture filter with '-R' like tshark does for reading files. Only to set the Diplay Filter when autostarting. Maybe it should have a different switch, to clarify it.

This is the same feature I'm also looking for. Since there seems to be a pretty clear difference between the two scenarios (unless I mis-read something), I'll file a new bug regarding wireshark/'-R'/'-k' sometime today or tomorrow.

thx,

Jason.

Hi,

I'm not sure there's one. You're welcome to open one. Mark it as enhancement, as all Wireshark improvements should be.

Thanx,
Jaap

Thanks Jaap. I am excited to know that my incorrect way of specifying data
along with an argument that was intended to do something else gave rise to
another feature that could potentially be added to Wireshark. Yeah it will
definitely be nice to have one such argument for a command line based
invocation of Wireshark.
What's the bug report for that? I'd like to add what I have so far to it...

thx,

Jason.
