And what about Red Hat, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, DragonFly BSD, Joe Bob's Shiny New Linux, etc., etc., etc.?

Documenting this on a platform-by-platform basis isn't the right answer.
