Wireshark-dev: Re: [Wireshark-dev] Issue loading a new plugin

Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2009 16:00:31 +0000
Anders,

If i use the 1.0.5 source to build my plugin will it work with stable versions after it?

Also, will i be able to use the same packet-foo.c file for my plugin or is the code format different?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi,
Note that the plugin API is not stable so there is no guarantee that a plugin created with one wersion of WS will work with another version. Building a plugin against 1.1.3 and trying to use it with 1.0.x will not work.

Regards
Anders

Subject: Re: [Wireshark-dev] Issue loading a new plugin

Hi,

I am also having the same problem with my custom dissector. after building it in (i think version 1.1.3, im not really sure. how can i check?) it works great when i run wireshark from the source build. However, when copying to the v1.0.5 version i downloaded, i get the module not found error. I even tried copying the manifest file too, that didnt work either. What is this mt.exe you're talking about? i need to figure this out since the dissector i created will be for my company and it would be a lot better to just be able to copy/paste the dll files instead of having to install my build. Would also be better for when newer wireshark versions come out, copy paste is easier than building another install file.

Thanks
