Fortunately, we only have to deal with existing version numbers here.

Anything we know: existing numbers (the one we ship with is ok, all

With sticking to only "decode" the DisplayName in nsis, we might get
away with a working thing ...

Just use the build number, i.e. the last number in 4.0.0.901. In any case I always guarantee that a new version of WinPcap will have a full version number (a.b.c.d) greater than the previous one. This is what's used internally in the WinPcap installer.
