My setup is as follows:

- "normal" LAN connection which I use for Intranet and Internet access
- WLAN is typically disabled (if I'm not in a meeting room)
- VirtualBox adapter which is typically disabled
- USB adapter which is connected to the monitoring/mirroring port of my switch

Since the USB adapter cannot send data on the mirroring port anyway, I have
removed all items in the Windows network adapter configuration (see
attachment).

In that case, the Wireshark traffic preview does not show any traffic (see
attachment).

Wireshark will still capture traffic when the USB adapter (mirroring port) is
selected. In that case, a second instance of Wireshark will even show traffic
in the preview. As soon as the second instance is closed, the traffic indicator
is back at zero.

Looking at the screenshots will clarify if the textual description is poor.
