FWIW I can't reproduce the "can't open file" behavior you describe. I tried
two different ways; both are using Win7 64-bit talking to a Samba-based file
server.

The first method was opening files in \\server\directory\; in the 2nd method I
mapped \\server\directory\ to Z: and opened the file that way. In both cases I
could double-click the file in Windows Explorer and the file opened correctly.
I also tried dragging the file over to the Wireshark icon on my desktop. That
worked fine too.

I can, however, confirm the odd searching for dumpcap.exe behavior. I ran
Wireshark while doing one of the above actions then filtered for:

smb.file contains "dumpcap"

and found several hits looking for \\server\directory\dumpcap.exe . That
should probably be the subject of a different bug, though--I don't think it's
related to your problem.
