We validate the compile/link flags we pass to the build proces, including those
that the user specified via CFLAGS or whatever. It's just that the breakage
happens at link time instead of compile time for this flag and we check most
flags - including this one - for compile time breakage only. Now that we know
this flag needs link time testing we should do that (instead of practicing what
Gerald once called Monty Python style).
