Wireshark-bugs: [Wireshark-bugs] [Bug 10013] Wireshark now unusable in 256-color (8-bit) graphic

Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2014 05:08:18 +0000

Wireshark uses GTK+, and I have the impression that GTK+ 2.x, for whatever
reason, requires a display with lots of colors, perhaps because its developers
couldn't be bothered to support color maps.

This is probably a result of switching from GTK+ 1.x to 2.x. It is also
unlikely to be a recent change - 1.4.x is almost 4 years old, and Wireshark
1.6.0 is almost 3 years old.

We won't be going back to GTK+ 1.x. Try the Qt version of Wireshark; it's part
of the 1.11 build.
