Wireshark 1.6 branch is end of life
(http://wiki.wireshark.org/Development/LifeCycle). Please give a try to 1.8.10
(old stable) or 1.10.2 (stable) releases.
It it still crashes, please provide more information on how you installed
Wireshark and a gdb backtrace.
