Our exception-handling code is only for within dissectors. Based on the stack
trace, you're seeing an actual crash at line 716 of file.c which is outside
that scope. This is the real bug that should be fixed, it should not be masked
by trying to treat it as a dissector exception (which it is not).
I am not able to reproduce any crash at that line - do you have full steps to
reproduce (perhaps file a separate bug and CC me)?
