I'm not sure I can actually reproduce the same bug you're seeing. On wireshark
trunk I'm seeing a small increase of about 0.1MB every time a packet is
selected, due to the ref-count bug in Jakub's email.

On wireshark 1.8.2 I'm not seeing any memory leak at all - I'm repeatedly
selecting packets back and forth and memory usage is staying constant.

In neither case am I seeing increases in the 2MB range that you saw. Perhaps
this is a Windows-specific bug? I've been doing all of my testing on Ubuntu.
