I'm fairly convinced now that preferring later entries is the right thing to do
by default in this situation. While there may be cases where we could want a
preference, I expect the need for it is pretty weak compared to the amount of
work involved in implementing it.
Since I've cleaned up all the apparent memory violations (in particular the one
that originally spawned this bug) I'm happy closing as fixed unless there are
strong objections. If someone does want preferences for duplicate entries they
can file an enhancement request and make their case there.
