Chris - thanks for looking into this. The bottom line issue with this bug, in
my opinion, is getting into a situation where the entire title bar of the app
is hiding in dead space, because then you can't move the window with the mouse.
In any other situation you can move and resize and move etc until the whole
thing fits on screen. So I think either of your proposed patches would solve
the problem.
What I was trying to say with the previous note is that, on a system where 0,0
isn't visible, I think WS used to open at 0,0 on its initial (first time ever)
launch (from some of the more recent posts though it seems that is no longer
true). Whereas I doubt MS word would do the same thing on its first ever
launch.
I was also guessing that it wouldn't open off screen if you moved windows
around in between launches, but I guess I was wrong.
