I haven't looked at the GTK source code; and it's probably not a good idea to
make "Me too!" posts on BugZilla ;) - but I certainly agree that this bug
hinders navigation through large trace files.
I've found that it's difficult to isolate individual packets when using the
live scrolling feature (since the packet list sometimes "snaps back" to the
end, post-selection), without being able to use my trackpad's scrollpad, too.
