Specifically, I intended to refer to the "Packet Bytes" pane. Does that answer
the question?

Regardless of the above, I think we're on the same wavelength here. I do a lot
of IDS signature writing where manually byte-counting is a painful part of the
job. I'd *much* rather select bytes and have the corresponding text highlighted
than the other way around, especially if I can get a count of the selected
bytes in (I think) the expert info bar at the very bottom.
