If I back Michael's fix out, and I open up the Capture -> Options dialog and
start a capture with a file name of "-", the same error-message-spamming
occurs. With Michael's fix, the spam goes away, and Wireshark (not
surprisingly) continues to run, with the error message box up.

I'd say Michael's change is the right fix for the bug, and that the whole issue
of "what to do if there's something wrong with Wireshark's command-line
arguments", i.e. report it on the command line or in the GUI, is a separate
issue.
