If you run Wireshark with the -k flag, it should start capturing immediately,
and not offer you the opportunity to set a capture filter; the filter has to be
specified as part of the command line. If you're launching Wireshark by
double-clicking an icon that has a command with "-k", how are you specifying
the capture filter?
