Did you mean "help reduce file loading *time*" or "help *increase* file loading
speed", or did I miss something?  It looks as if, with the test patch, the
files you tested with loaded *faster*:

50MB file: test patch reduced the time from 8.9-9.1 seconds to 7.8-7.9 seconds;

78MB file: test patch reduced the time from 4.9-5.2 seconds to 3.8-4.1 seconds.

(As for the outliers - could it be that the lack of intermediate updates,
whatever caused it, sped the load process up?)
