GCC version 4.4.1 running on Kubuntu Karmic x64 (package version: Ubuntu
4.4.1-4ubuntu8)

I remember a similar problem with GNU Binutils. It may be due to the way GCC is
compiled for Ubuntu (i.e. -Werror is enabled by default), although I can't
confirm this.
