Thanks Guy and Stephen for the suggestions. I'm already familiar with them, but
I was thinking of a "hot" merging/"continue capture" function (i.e. where an
existing capture of any age file gets new data injected into it, after being
opened, as it's captured). I don't know if that functionality is available,
though.

Assuming that the file type of the destination capture file supports it, it
should be possible to merge in/inject packets from other interfaces and link
types after the fact (during capturing), too.

I probably haven't explained the idea very well initially though, but I'm
willing to elaborate and clarify, if necessary.
